Cabin on Silvertree Ridge, Lake Lure, North Carolina

Questions and answers

Here you'll find the some commonly asked questions (and, of course, our answers!) If you still have questions, just contact us! We'd be happy to talk to you over the telephone (407-549-5717) or via email (info@silvertreecabin.com.)

What's the maximum group size that can stay at the cabin?

The cabin sleeps up to 6 adults. You can squeeze in a youngun or two as well. If you have a larger group, please contact us first.

How many bedrooms and bathrooms?

2 of each. The loft has a queen-sized bed. There's a full-sized bed in the guest room on the main level, and a futon (also will sleep two) in the lower-level gameroom.

Is the cabin air-conditioned and heated?

Yes, the cabin is air conditioned. In addition, there are ceiling fans in every room. As for heat, there is a furnace providing central heat to all rooms. You may also wish to use the gas fireplace to stay cozy and warm on chilly evenings.

Are linens provided?

Fresh, clean linens are provided. The cabin is completely ready to enjoy when you arrive.

How about privacy? Is this cabin secluded?

Yes. There are no structures visible from the cabin or property. The cabin is in a quiet mountain community with large lots. The drive up the mountain is a relatively shallow grade which can be handled by a normal vehicle in all but the worst of weather. Lake Lure tends to get snow only occasionally in the winter, and when it does snow, it is typically a very light snowfall which melts by afternoon.

Exactly where is the cabin located?

About a mile southeast of Lake Lure. We have a map available to show you the location of the cabin. Click here to see it.

Can we get supplies and groceries nearby?

Yes! There are a number of convenient stores nearby, including a brand new Ingle's grocery store just two miles up the road in Lake Lure.

How do we make reservations?

Just fill out the reservation form. You can also just email us at info@silvertreecabin.com or call 407-549-5717. If you email us directly please include your group size and phone number. It's that simple! We reply to all inquiries within 24 hours - often you'll hear back from us minutes or hours after you contact us. We check our email and phone messages pretty frequently. Don't worry, we'll get right back to you - we promise!

How early should we make reservations? We're just now starting to plan our vacation.

The earlier, the better! We are a simple 'first come, first served' operation. The summer months are most popular. June through October are usually fully booked. If you are interested visiting the cabin during these months we highly recommend getting in touch with us as soon as possible. Holidays, spring, and autumn are also extremely popular. The winter months are your best bet for a "last-minute" reservation, but we generally have many bookings even during these months. Please contact us ASAP so we can reserve your spot and make sure you have a wonderful vacation in Lake Lure!

May we bring pets to the cabin?

Yes... we're "pet-friendly!" As of January, 2006, we allow small pets only (dogs under 20 lbs.) at the SilverTree cabin. A pet fee is required (see the Rates page.)

Is the back yard fenced in?

Yes, but we do not recommend leaving your pet unattended as the fence is not completely secure. If you intend to utilize the fenced area in the backyard you should connect a leash or line to your pet's collar to ensure that it remains in the yard.

Do you offer high-speed internet access?

Yes! We have a wireless access point available at the cabin for your use. You simply need a wireless-enabled computer to take advantage of it. If your laptop is not enabled for wirless access, you can plug into our router. Please bring an ethernet cable of appropriate length.

Is this a smoke-free cabin?

Yes, it is; however, you are welcome to smoke outside. Please refrain from dropping cigarette butts in the yard; we've provided receptacles on the porch to accomodate them.

Is your kitchen fully stocked?

Just bring food! Glass-top stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwaher, toaster, coffee maker, and <pop!> corkscrew are all included.

Do you have a washer and dryer?

Yes, and yes.

How many cabins are there?

There are two. Our sister cabin, "Cabin in Hidden Hills" has its own website at http://www.nccabin.com. To us they're cherished members of the family... please treat our baby gently! :-)

Where are the two cabins with respect to each other?

They're about a 10 minute drive apart. The SilverTree Cabin is within a mile of the Dam Marina at Lake Lure, and the Hidden Hills cabin is another 6-7 miles to the east on scenic 74.

What's the difference between the two cabins?

Besides location, the Hidden Hills Cabin is larger and on a bigger piece of property. However, both are well-proportioned and sleep the same number of people in equal comfort. The Hidden Hills cabin features a gameroom with billiard table and vintage video games, and a pond. The SilverTree cabin features a year round view of the Gorge, and foosball/darts and a cedar log bar in the gameroom. Since the SilverTree cabin is a little smaller, we charge slightly less per week than the Hidden Hills cabin. We chose these two cabins because they very nicely complement each other. Guests who've stayed in both say that it's very difficult to choose between the two!

We need directions to the cabin!

These are included in the Welcome Packet which is sent to you immediately after we receive your deposit.

What is there to do in Lake Lure?

Goodness, the sky's the limit. Just about anything and everything you can imagine is just a short drive away. Check out Things to Do page for more information, but the short list includes: golf, hiking, water-skiing, boating, swimming, white-water rafting, horseback riding, mountain climbing, and of course we have the world famous Chimney Rock! The list goes on, but you get the idea.

Any place good to eat nearby?

Ah, so you're a culinary afficianado, just like we are! There are a number of excellent restaurants in Lake Lure. Our favorite is Larkin's On the Lake, which surely won't disappoint. Besides that, there's everything from sub sandwiches to pizza to BBQ. You won't be disappointed. A comprehensive list of restaurants can be found at the cabin.

We want to play golf!

Then you picked the right spot. The Municipal Golf Course is located less than 10 minutes to the west on Highway 64/74. Apple Valley Golf Course, located in Fairfield Mountains, is rated among North Carolina's top 50 golf courses and features scenic views and challenging greens. Bald Mountain Golf Course has been hailed by Golf Digest as "One of the most beautiful mountain courses around." Information on nearby golf courses can be found at the cabin.

We want to fish!

Lake Lure has over 27 miles of shorelines and 1500 acres of water surface area. Anglers can catch a variety of fish ranging from Lake Trout to Largemouth Bass!

We want to visit Chimney Rock Park!

It's just a few minutes away. The Chimney itself is just hidden from view as you look out from the back deck (the rock face you're seeing is to the right of it.) Besides the fantastic view, there are also nice hiking trails up there. Getting to the top is a 26-story elevator ride.
